🚨 Your Weekly Email... Well, Three Weeks Late (But Worth the Wait!)
Hello Friends!
This is normally my weekly "What You May Have Missed" email.
Well...this one turned into three weeks' worth of work, so I'm a little late.
Here's the good news: if you were subscribed, this would have shown up in your inbox instead of you finding it later on the blog.
👉 Visit the HOME page at NielFlamm.com and subscribe today. It's free, you'll get these updates as they're published, and you won't have to wait three weeks for me to catch you up.
Now...let's see what you've missed.
🎬 Movie Theater Therapy
I've continued my mission of helping you decide whether a movie deserves your hard-earned money (or at least a large bucket of popcorn).
Over the past few weeks, I've reviewed everything from revenge thrillers to horror films and comedies, including Motor City and several other theatrical releases that sparked great conversations both online and in person.
Sometimes the review is about the movie.
Sometimes it's about the audience.
Sometimes it's about drinking what feels like half a gallon of Pepsi Zero while trying not to spill popcorn everywhere.
The movie reviews remain one of my favorite things to create, and hopefully they help you decide what's worth seeing on the big screen.
🏥 Health, Recovery & Real Life
Life as an amputee and dialysis patient doesn't stop because I have a website.
Over the past few weeks, I've shared updates about dialysis treatments, monthly lab work, conversations with my nephrology team, and the realities of living with kidney failure.
I wrote about replacing my dialysis backpack after the old one finally decided retirement sounded like a good idea, explained some of my lab results, and shared practical observations from treatment.
Recovery continues to teach me gratitude, patience, and serenity...
...although I still have room for improvement when someone decides the shoulder of the highway is an acceptable passing lane.
Progress, not perfection.
💼 Career & Leadership
The job search continues.
I've written about behavioral assessments, leadership, instructional design, learning & development, and what organizations can do to build stronger teams.
Leadership isn't about having the loudest voice in the room.
It's about serving people, communicating clearly, developing others, and creating an environment where employees can do their best work.
🏘️ Nextdoor, Citizen, Leadership & AI
If you've been following along, you know Nextdoor continues to provide me with plenty to write about.
Over the past few weeks, I've discussed moderation, shareholder concerns, executive communication, transparency, AI, and whether the platform is solving the problems neighbors actually care about.
I also spent time comparing Citizen and Nextdoor after using both. Citizen has impressed me with timely neighborhood safety alerts, customizable notification areas, and a focus on getting useful information to neighbors quickly. That led to conversations about customer experience, community engagement, platform priorities, and how technology can either help neighborhoods—or monetize them.
Whether you agree with my opinions or completely disagree, I hope the discussions encourage people to think critically about the platforms we use every day.
🎥 Other Internet Garbage
Some stories don't fit into a neat category.
Over the past three weeks, I've written about:
Parking between the lines (apparently an advanced driving technique).
Quiet Starbucks visits that turned into productive writing sessions.
LinkedIn scammers.
Horror movies.
Lottery pools.
Customer experiences.
Shaving products.
Technology.
Social media.
And whatever random observation wandered into my head that day.
If it made me stop and think...
...there's a pretty good chance it became a blog post.
