Buddy: When a Children's Movie Stops Being Child's Play 🦄

I thought Buddy was a kids' movie. An orange unicorn singing songs and teaching life lessons? I figured I knew what I was getting into.

I was wrong.

One of the movie's earliest lessons is that you have to be scared to be brave. A simple message, but worth thinking about: bravery doesn't mean not feeling fear. It means finding a way forward despite it.

But Buddy takes that cheerful beginning somewhere I wasn't expecting. The story gets increasingly unhinged, the familiar starts to feel strange, and by the end, I'm questioning what I thought I understood.

Sometimes the movies we overlook surprise us most.

Come for the orange unicorn. Stay for the unexpected.

Or don't. 😉
